I had had my license for 6 years in October, and called my insurance company to make sure my rate would go down. While on the phone, the rep and I got to chatting and I mentioned to her that I have been staying most nights (6-7 nights per week) at a different address for over a year now, but my license and policy are still listed at my mother's address. The rep explained the garaging address can be changed without changing the billing address if the two are different. Today I received an email about being refunded the difference at the end of my policy term. I didn't realize the changes would generate such a huge difference in price (The zip code of the town I have been staying in has a low crime rate and my mother's address is in a city). I realize people change their address to commit fraud, and now seeing such a difference in rate, I want to sure there is no legal ambiguity- I want to be crystal clear on what garaging implies and what I need to be aware of. 1) Am I in a gray area...If I go home for a weekend? I called my insurance company yesterday to get a quote for a change of vehicle as I was planning to buy a new car. They said my monthly premium would still stay the same and the quote was only valid till end of the day which is fair enough. They said they give the quote on whatever the insurance rate is at the current time so if i was to call another day it could go up but it shouldn't go up that much. So I went to view the car yesterday evening and decided to buy the car. I called my insurance company today and they said it would cost me an extra 350 to get me insured on the car. So i asked them how could it go from nothing to 350 within a day. They come out with the quote is based on the daily rate of insurance and they cant do nothing about it. I wouldn't have mind if it went up by 100 or so but from nothing to 350 in one day is a big jump. Is there anything I can do?

I never any information about my policy, all they sent me was the monthly bill. So today I went to the agent and notified them of this, and they gave me a Coverage Selections Page paper, and I noticed that on part 4 of the compulsory insurance they set my limit to $50,000 while the minimum is only $5000 here in Massachusetts. Apparently the premium for having the $50,000 limit is $503. Back in October of 2010I was involved in a Hit and Run Accident. The Guy that hit us was found a few days later and we filed against his insurance. Me and my Fiance both went through Physical therapy for our backs. Medical bills totalled about 5K for me and about 8K for her. There were times when she was in tears because her back was hurting so bad. She Couldnt work some days either and she is self employed and works from home as a graphic Designer. I missed some days of work too but my pain was not near as much as hers. State Farm Called and offered a settlement with me to pay the 5k to the Doctor and then a $1000 check to me for my pain and suffering. They called my Fiance to settle but she did not answer. My guess is they will probably offer her the same. Is Paid medical bills plus $1,000 fair? We missed work from it. Delt with stress and Physical therapy for about 3 months and not to mention all of the inconveniences associated with getting the car fixed and also dealing with insurance stuff. Insurance Rates tied to credit score?

I just read the front page of our local newspaper regarding homeowners and auto insurance rates will be tied to ones credit score, making those with lower incomes, or problematic credit to pay even more for the home or auto insurances. The main question I have is...do you think that if ones credit improves, that the insurance companies have an adjustable rate that will decrease when ones credit score increases? I know this isn't the way it's going to happen, but what are your feelings on this plan?

How does an Alabama ticket affect Washington insurance?

I got a speeding ticket in Alabama last day of August for doing 52 in a 40, $200. I have two previous wrecks, one was not the considered my fault and my rates did not increase, one was weather related but my rates did increase. I am 20 years old and have no previous tickets. I know this will go on my record and that my insurance company will see when my policy is renewed, but I want to know if it will dramatically increase my rates? WA state does not operate on a points system like Alabama does so I'm confused on how it will transfer over. Any help is appreciated.

The deal we would get here would be cheaper than with Geico, but I had a bad experience with Farmers a long time ago (They were great until I had an accident, then they slapped me with a huge increase in premium. Why do I have to pay extra for changing address with my insurance company?

I recently moved and changed the details on my drivers licence and log book. When I called the insurance company to do the same they said i would need to pay 60 to cover the cost of the change between now and the renewal period (which at the time was approx 6 weeks away). All of this was AFTER they took my previous and new address to confirm my ID. When I asked them why this was as I had paid my entire premium in full last year (so as not to incur direct debit charges) they just repeated themselves. I did not have the 60 and said well I will just stay at the previous address (my ex-boyfriends) until my renewal comes through and I will change address then. However...my renewal has just come through in my NEW address but with postcode where vehicle kept overnight as my OLD address!! What does this actually mean?? surely if I have to make a claim it doesn't matter where the vehicle is kept esp as they have my address and the majority of claims do not happen at your residence!!! I have read the policy back to front and they even added amendments this year to include admin charges and NOWHERE does it mention being charged for change of address. I have literally moved around the corner surely its not just about postcodes or am I being naive??

I do not think I fit the criteria of high risk in terms of claims or bad driving.
